/ 05:00 PM October 16, 2018

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The gubernatorial bid of Pampanga Vice Gov. Dennis Pineda is being challenged by Bacolor Mayor Jose Maria “Jomar” Hizon.

Hizon, 56, filed his certificate of candidacy on Tuesday and will run as an independent against Pineda, 44-year-old son of outgoing Gov. Lilia Pineda.

Pineda, vice chair of the local party Kambilan, swapped places with his mother, who is gunning for the vice gubernatorial post in the 2019 midterm elections.

Hizon was a two-term barangay captain of Cabalantian, the village worst-hit by Mt. Pinatubo’s lahar in 1995, before he was elected mayor in 2011. His sister Angie is running for vice mayor of the City of San Fernando.  /kga
