Pia Cayetano mum on Duterte’s remarks vs women

House Deputy Speaker Pia Cayetano refused to comment on the remarks made by President Rodrigo Duterte against women — including that of kissing an overseas Filipino worker in South Korea — saying she is not his spokesperson.

The issue was raised when Cayetano, who claims to be an advocate of women’s welfare, filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in the 2019 polls on Tuesday.

She was asked by a reporter to comment on Duterte’s actions against women.

But instead of answering the question, Cayetano pointed at her track record of pushing for certain bills that she said aims to help women in the country.

“I think my track record speaks for itself. I fought the hard battle,” said Cayetano, who is also the 2nd District Representative of Taguig City.

But when pressed for a categorical answer, Cayetano said: “I will take another question.”

Cayetano supported the candidacy of Duterte in the 2016 polls. She is also the sister of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, who ran as the President’s vice presidential bet in the 2016 polls.  /muf
