House Deputy Speaker Pia Cayetano filed on Tuesday her certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2019 elections, as she eyes to reclaim a Senate seat next year.
Cayetano, also the Taguig City 2nd district representative, biked from the Rizal Monument in Rizal Park to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) headquarters in Intramuros to file her COC.
She said going to the Comelec through a bike symbolizes three areas she believes are important: transportation, health, and empowerment of women and children.

Cayetano, who was also a former senator before becoming a representative, said that her record in the Senate will support her candidacy.
“My advocacies through the laws I have passed speak for itself,” she said in a press briefing.
“I also feel that my 12 years in the Senate is a platform that I have been comfortable with,” she added.
She hushed allegations that she haD been passive for the remarks of President Rodrigo Duterte against women, and instead pointed at the laws she supported when she was still senator, including the Reproductive Health Law, and the proposed 105-day paid maternity leave for female workers.
She will join the senatorial slate of the Nacionalista Party. /cbb
