Incumbent Makati Mayor Abigail “Abby”Binay became emotional on Monday as she appealed to her brother, former city mayor Junjun Binay, to give her a chance.
Both are gunning for the mayoral race in the 2019 elections.
“This will divide our family even after the election,” Abby said when asked for her message to Junjun during an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel’s “Headstart.”
“Through all the joy and the sorrow, I’ve been with him. And all the crises that he has been through, personally and politically, I was with him.”
“… I was standing up for him… Ate ako e, di ba? Sana bigyan nya ako ng chance…” added Abby, who had to pause for a moment as she tried to control her emotions.
Prodded what chance she was asking from her brother, Abby said: “Chance. Yun lang.”
“He will have his turn, he had his turn,” she said.
Abby pointed out that when JunJun was the mayor, she would have never asked their father, former Vice President Jejomar Binay, to allow her to run against her brother.
“It is unconceivable for us na magbanggaan kaya hindi ko maintindihan bakit nya ako binabangga,” Abby said.
“I’m not fighting with my brother. I’m not in the business of making our family miserable nor will I wash our dirty linen in public. Whatever issues we have in our family, we will keep it within our family. It’s just unfortunate that now, there’s a political difference.”
In the end, the incumbent mayor urged JunJun to be “man enough to say I will give my Ate a chance.”
