Former Isabela town councilor dies in ambush, 1 hurt

CORDON, Isabela—A former town councilor was killed while one of his three companions was hurt in an ambush on Friday afternoon in barangay (village) Turod Norte, here, police said.

Investigators said the shooting happened around 4:15 p.m. when armed men on board an SUV fired at the vehicle of Jose Bugbog, killing him and wounding one of his three companions.

The SUV tailed Bugbog’s car when the former councilor and his friends left Tanggal village where they attended a meeting.

Bugbog was declared dead on arrival at the hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.

Bugbog had just filed his certificate of candidacy for Cordon councilor. He served in the municipal council from 2013 to 2016. He lost his re-election bid in 2016/jpv
