The alleged “Red October” plot to oust President Rodrigo Duterte will no longer push through, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said Friday.
“Wala na. Hindi na natuloy ‘yan kasi nabuking sila eh,” Lorenzana told reporters in an ambush interview.
Lorenzana said that when the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) exposed alleged documents confirming the effort to overthrow Duterte, groups purportedly behind the plot started to dissolve.
“There was a … we got a document really stating, nakalagay dun Red October. Eh nung ilabas ‘yun ng AFP eh nag ano… kasi initially mayroong mga kumpol na mga grupo eh pero nung mabulgar sila nagpulasan na kaya hindi na matutuloy,” the Defense secretary said.
The Red October plot is allegedly a coalition of communist rebels and members of the political opposition to remove Duterte from office. Purportedly, the plan was to be carried out this month. /kga
