Driver dies as heavy equipment falls off cliff in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A heavy equipment operator died in an accident on a government road project in Lucban town in Quezon province on Thursday, police said.

Report from Quezon police said a pay-loader equipment being operated by Francisco Devera accidentally fell into a 20-meter cliff on a bridge construction project in Barangay (village) Kulapi around 1:30 p.m.

Devera sustained serious head and body injuries and was being rushed to the nearest hospital but died along the way.

Authorities were still conducting an investigation on the cause of the accident, as of this posting.  /kga
