Ending speculations about her political plans, resigned Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson announced on Monday that she would seek an elective post in the 2019 midterm elections, though she did not say for which position.
“Yes, I am running,” said Uson, a former movie starlet-dancer who amassed a huge following on social media as a supporter of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In support of the President
The controversial former Malacañang official said she reached her decision only on Monday, spurred by “fake news” maligning her character.
Uson herself has been accused of helping circulate rumors and fake news on her social medial platforms in support of the President.
“I’m fuming right now because the criticisms are too much. It seems they are so threatened: ‘Is Mocha running for senator?’” Uson told reporters at the Senate, where she had meetings with two senators.
She also denied a report on Inquirer.net quoting a source as saying she had been fired by the President after a series of gaffes, including a viral video that mocked sign language and another that featured a racy song about federalism. —DJ Yap
