Coast Guard marshal stabbed by ship passenger in Sulu

A Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) sea marshal was stabbed several times by a passenger while they were on a cargo-passenger vessel in Siasi, Sulu.

Information released by the PCG on Monday said that Seaman Second Class Michael Ladja suffered  “multiple stab wounds in different parts of his body” after a certain Juldi J Mahbud attacked him last Friday, October 5.

Investigation showed that Ladja was inspecting tickets onboard the M/V Ever Queen of Asia when Mahbud rushed forward and stabbed him.

The officer defended himself and killed Mahbud in the process, the PCG said.

The vessel, which was on its way to Jolo, returned to Siasi port and Ladja was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

The PCG said Ladja had been transferred and was recovering in a hospital in Zamboanga City. /cbb
