Former South Cotabato village chair slain

KORONADAL CITY – A former village chair in Polomolok, South Cotabato was executed by unidentified gunmen riding tandem on motorbike Sunday, police said today.

Chief Inspector Alex Joe Orcajada, Polomolok police chief, said the 74-year-old Ulama Nilong, former chair of Barangay Lapu, died on the spot from multiple bullet wounds in the head.

Orcajada said Nilong was heading for home about 1 p.m. aboard a pedicab when one of two men shot him from behind in Purok 3.

He had just attended a community prayer for Islam in the village when the shooting occurred.

Orcajada said one of Nilong’s children saw the man pick his mobile phone before fleeing. Police recovered empty shells for cal. 45 pistol in the crime scene.

Police eye personal grudge as the motive.
