CITY OF SAN FERNANDO — The Pampanga police are now tracking down what may have been three getaway vehicles used by the killers of Sasmuan municipal councilor and vice mayoral bet Jesus Reyes on Oct. 6.

Footage captured by security cameras showed the two male suspects had abandoned their motorcycle, transferred to a sports utility vehicle and drove from the crime scene.

“About three vehicles are now our subjects for record checks,” said Senior Supt. Nicanor Salvador, Pampanga police director, on Sunday. He did not provide details on the third vehicle.

Reyes was jogging along Dalan Baba road in Barangay Sta. Lucia when the suspects stabbed and shot him at 6:30 a.m. He died in a hospital at 10:41 a.m. The assailants wore bonnets that hid their faces.

The attack happened days after Reyes got the nod of the local political party, Kambilan, to be its vice mayoral candidate in the May 2019 midterm elections, according to Vice Governor Dennis Pineda, who is also Kambilan vice chairman.

The attack also took place a week before the start of the filing of certificates of candidacy on Oct. 11.

The Central Luzon police have set up the hotlines 09985985330 and 09279464741 and are urging the public to report any information regarding the killers or the mastermind behind Reyes’ slay. /ee
