Laborer electrocuted, 4 hurt in Quezon

LUCENA CITY – A laborer was electrocuted while trying to rescue a fellow worker at a bridge construction project in Atimonan town in Quezon province on Saturday, police said.

Investigator Police Officer 3 Oliver Andrey said Joey de Guzman tried to rescue Rey Valle, truck driver and crane operator, after the iron bars that the crane was lifting accidentally came in contact with a high-voltage wire which was being installed by the Quezon Electric Company in Barangay (village) Isidro at about 4:50 p.m.

De Leon and tricycle driver Carlos Candia tried to help Valle and other workers Ryan Perilla and Louie Celesana but they were also hit by electric shock.

The victims were taken to the Doña Martha Memorial District Hospital in Atimonan but De Leon died along the way.

The four other victims were transferred to a hospital in Lucena City for further treatment. /cbb
