Baguio jail guard nabbed for mauling companion

BAGUIO CITY – A jail officer was arrested for beating up a man outside a bar at 1:20 a.m. on Friday, according to the Cordillera police.

Jail Officer 3 Emmanuel Mataag, 42, who is assigned at the Baguio City Jail, struck his companion, Jonathan Santiago, 39, with a handgun as they headed for their parked car along Bokawkan Road, and proceeded to maul him.

Responding police officers detained the jail guard and rushed Santiago to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center.

The police have yet to determine what prompted Mataag to attack Santiago. VALERIE DAMIAN
