The Philippine National Police (PNP) has recalled the security detail of Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on the same day that Malacañang made public Proclamation No. 572, revoking his amnesty.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed on August 31 Proclamation No. 572, voiding the amnesty given to Trillanes during the previous administration. The presidential decree, however, was made public via an advertisement placed in a broadsheet last September 4.
Proclamation No. 572 said Trillanes’ amnesty is void ab initio because the senator failed to comply with two basic requirements for the reprieve – that Trillanes did not file an application for it and admit his guilt over two botched uprisings against then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
According to sources, the PNP has recalled the Senator’s security detail to its mother unit – PNP Police Security and Protection Group (PNP-PSPG) – following Proclamation No. 572.
Information reaching INQUIRER.net confirmed that effective September 24, 2018, the security personnel formerly detailed to Trillanes were given new assignments.
To recall, Mr. Duterte’s directive stripping the amnesty of his fiercest critic prompted Makati City Regional Trial Court Branch 150 to issue a warrant for the senator’s arrest thereby opening the mutineer-turned-legislator’s rebellion case for the 2007 Manila Peninsula siege.
Meanwhile, Makati RTC Branch 148, which is handling the coup d’état case against Trillanes over the 2003 Oakwood mutiny, has yet to rule whether to issue an arrest warrant for the senator and opted to conduct a hearing on Friday. /kga
