Solon’s son faces raps for QC road death, drunk driving

A congresswoman’s son is facing charges over the death of a parking attendant in a road accident in Quezon City shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

Police identified Ed Christopher Go, a board member of the Isabela provincial government and son of Rep. Ana Cristina Siquian-Go of the province’s second district, as the driver of the BMW sedan that hit Celso Calacat, 50.

PO3 Joel Aviso, the case investigator from the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said Go was driving on Tomas Morato, heading toward Timog Avenue, around 12:30 a.m. when his car sideswiped Calacan, who was then guiding another motorist who was backing up.

Calacat sustained serious injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Capitol Medical Center.

Aviso said responding QCPD officers noticed that Go, who introduced himself as a government employee, appeared drunk and later tested positive for alcohol after being made to take a breath test at Jose Memorial Medical Center.

“However, Mr. Go began to spit up blood so he requested, through his counsels, to undergo medical treatment,” Aviso said.

As of press time on Wednesday, Go remained confined at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, where the QCPD had placed him under police escort.

The government official faces charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and for driving under the influence of liquor, Aviso said. —Jhesset O. Enano
