Comelec releases calendar for 2019 elections

One week before the start of the filing of candidacy, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) released the calendar of activities for the 2019 elections.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Comelec set the election period from January 13, 2019, until June 12, 2019. Election day was set for May 13.

Comelec said that candidates for senator and party-list groups participating in the Party-List System of Representation could start campaigning from February 12 to May 11.

Political campaigning is banned on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

For candidates for the House of Representatives, and elective regional, provincial, city and municipal positions, their campaign period will be from March 30 to May 11.

A gun ban will be enforced for the entire election period from January 13 to June 12. The liquor ban will be from May 12-13.

The filing of the candidacy for the 2019 midterm elections is from October 11 – 17. /cbb
