28 injured in Negros Occidental road mishap

MANILA, Philippines—Two buses trying to avoid a head-on collision still met an accident in Negros Occidental, leaving 28 passengers injured Thursday noon, police said.

The buses, both belonging to the Ceres Liner, were traveling in opposite direction along Sibucao Diutay, in  Barangay Sibucao, San Enrique, when the accident occurred at 12:15. p.m., said San Enrique chief of police Inspector Hector Balbon.

The first bus, with body number 5523, was on its way to Bacolod City from La Carlota City carrying at least 30 passengers when it lost its brakes while another Ceres bus, with body number 5129 was approaching. To avoid a head-on collision, both drivers swerved their vehicles to the other lane.

“Nagtransfer sa kabilang linya ‘yong isa tapos lumipat din ‘yong isa sa kabila para hindi sila mag-head on na dalawang bus. Bale nag cross sila,” he said.

As a result, bus 5129 fell into a canal while the other bus hit an electric post, Balbon said.

He said the 28 injured persons sustained lacerations and bruises in their bodies. “But nobody died,” he added.

They were brought to the nearest hospital for treatment, he said.
