13 killed, 5 hurt in Sarangani road accident

DAVAO CITY, Philippines—Thirteen members of the Victory Chapel church were killed while five others were injured when the van they were riding slammed into a parked cargo truck in Barangay Banate in Malungon, Sarangani province early morning Thursday.

Report from the Sarangani police indicated the victims were all from the province and were on their way to a gathering at their main church here when the accident occurred.

Some of the fatalities were brought to a funeral parlor in Digos City in Davao del Sur while five of the wounded victims were rushed to a government hospital here.

Initial investigation showed the parked truck had no early warning device to alert motorists.
