Suspect in GenSan bombing slain in anti-drug ops

KORONADAL CITY – A member of Islamic State-inspired Ansar al-Khilafa Philippines (AKP) believed to be involved in the Sept. 16 bombing in General Santos City (GenSan) was killed in a police anti-drug operation in Polomolok, South Cotabato, on Sunday, police said.

Chief Supt. Eliseo Tam Rasco, police director for Region 12, said Samrud Embang resisted arrest by opening fire at members of a police anti-drug unit and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-12) during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Glamang at 4:15 p.m.

Rasco, in a statement, said Embang was a member of the Islamist AKP and was included on President Rodrigo Duterte’s drug watch list.

“He was one of the suspects in the Sept. 16 bombing in GenSantos City that injured eight persons,” Rasco said, citing police investigation report.

Recovered from Embang were one huge sachet of shabu, a cal. 38 revolver, a spent .38-caliber shell and marked money. Also recovered were empty shells from 9-mm pistols used by law enforcers. /cbb
