Senior citizens won’t pay any fee for their train rides with the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 2 and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 from October 1 to 7 in celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced Friday.

According to the DOTr, senior citizens may avail of free MRT-3 rides from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., and free LRT-2 rides from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The DOTr said elderly passengers can avail of the free rides simply by showing their Senior Citizens ID, as properly issued by the Office for Senior Citizen Affairs, or any valid ID showing their birthdate.

The nation observes Elderly Filipino Week every first week of October each year, as provided for by Proclamation No. 470 signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos.  /kga
