Pagasa: ‘Paeng’ still here but new LPA may enter PH this weekend

Typhoon “Paeng” (international name Trami) is still within the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), but a low pressure area (LPA) may soon follow, the state weather bureau said Wednesday.

Paeng is expected to leave PAR on Saturday afternoon but the new weather disturbance may enter PAR either on Sunday or Monday, according to Gener Quitlong, of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Quitlong said they are keeping an eye on the LPA but based on early forecasts, it might have a similar track with Paeng.

Paeng was last spotted 755 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes. It has maximum sustained winds of 160 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 190 kph. The typhoon continued to move northward.

The southwest monsoon, meanwhile, will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain over Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Basilan, Tawi-Tawi, and Sulu, Pagasa said.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience isolated thunderstorms, it added.  /kga
