Seven workers of the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3) were injured in a collision between two maintenance vehicles on the line before dawn Wednesday.

The MRT-3 management said two “unimogs” accidentally collided between Buendia and Guadalupe stations at about 3:15 a.m.

The accident occurred during a routine check of the rail tracks, Transportation Undersecretary for Rails Timothy John Batan said in a radio interview.

He added that the injured were already brought to the Victor R Potenciano Medical Center in Mandaluyong City.

Of the seven injured, two were reported to have fractures on their shoulders. They were identified as Roger Piamonte, lineman team leader, and Eric Anthony Cabbab, driver technician. Both are confined at the hospital and under the intensive care unit of the hospital.

The other five suffered minor injuries but are also confined. Some of them have undergone CT procedures and X-ray due to lacerations.

The driver of the unimog that was bumped has already been discharged from the hospital at around 11 a.m. The driver did not sustain any fracture, MRT-3 director for operations Mike Capati said during a press briefing.

The collision led to a delay in the deployment of trains and a disruption of passenger service. Trains are normally inserted at 4:30 a.m. but the deployment on Wednesday was moved to 5:30 a.m. due to the incident. /cbb/muf
