Ecija man killed in drug bust, 2 women nabbed

GAPAN CITY – The 36-year-old son of a prominent Chinese-Filipino family from Cabanatuan City was killed, while his two female companions were arrested, following a drug bust in Barangay San Roque about 1 a.m. on Tuesday.

Lloyd Ang, whose mother owns a supermarket in Cabanatuan, reportedly fired at policemen who gave chase when he drove off in a pick-up truck after selling a sachet of shabu (crystal meth) to undercover policemen.

The policemen fired at the truck’s tires, prompting the vehicle to stop about two kilometers from the transaction site.

Supt. Peter Madria, city police chief, said Ang opened fire at the policemen and was killed when they retaliated.

The police arrested Ruby Dasig, 48, of Sta. Rosa town in Nueva Ecija and Carolina Lapina, 48, of Cabanatuan City, who were in another vehicle that was parked near Ang’s truck before the alleged drug deal.

But Dasig said they met Ang there to discourage him from peddling drugs. Lapina’s brother had been missing, she said, although Dasig did not explain how the disappearance was connected to Ang. Armand Galang/lb
