Two earthquakes hit the seabed off Surigao del Norte within hours of each other on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The second and stronger temblor that measured at magnitude 4.8 hit 55 kilometers (km) northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte, at 10:16 a.m.
It was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 5 km.
An earlier magnitude-4.1 quake struck the same general area at 7:34 a.m.
It was also tectonic origin and had a depth of 1 km.
Phivolcs said aftershocks were expected for both quakes and it expected no damage. /cbb
