Incumbents, kin and stars gun for posts in 2019

Incumbents Parañaque Mayor Edwin Olivarez, Vice Mayor Rico Golez and 12 city councilors are running for reelection in 2019, but under another political party.

Olivarez and company have left the Liberal Party (LP) for President Rodrigo Duterte’s Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan party, city information officer Mar Jimenez said on Monday.

They will file their certificates of candidacy on Oct. 15, he added.

Among the first district councilors gunning for another term are actors Vandolph Quizon and Jomari Yllana.

Quizon is the son of former councilor and actress Alma Moreno with comedy king Dolphy.

Yllana is a brother of comedians Anjo and Ryan, who are also incumbent officials in Quezon City and Parañaque City, respectively.

Allen Ford Tan, the husband of singer-actress Roselle Nava-Tan, a third-term councilor, is seeking to replace her.

Olivarez’s son, Paolo, is also entering politics, eyeing the seat of Councilor Brillante Inciong — the leader of all-male dance group Masculados — who is on his third and last term.
