Today, Sept. 25, is the 139th birth anniversary of novelist, poet, public servant and labor leader Lope K. Santos.
Born in 1879 in Pasig, Santos is considered the “Father of Filipino Grammar.”
He also cofounded Union Obrera Democratica with Isabelo delos Reyes in 1902.
Santos served as director of the Institute of National Language from 1941 to 1945.
His work, “Balarila ng Wikang Pambansa,” is the basis for Filipino grammar.
