Typhoon “Paeng”— internationally known as “Trami” — intensified at sea on Monday afternoon, but the Philippines will only feel its impact starting Thursday, the state weather bureau said.
It was packing maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center with gusts of up to 225 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said.
It maintained its speed of 20 kph west northwest, but it’s expected to slow down starting Tuesday.
Paeng was spotted 895 kilometers east of Aparri, Cagayan.
It will affect extreme Nirthern Luzon on Friday, but it might enhance the southwest monsoon over parts of Luzon and Visayas starting Thursday, Pagasa said.
Light to moderate and at times heavy rains are expected over the western section of Luzon and Visayas.
Storm signals may also be raised over the tip the of northern Luzon by Thursday.
Pagasa earlier said that Paeng wouldn’t bring as much rainfall as “Ompong” — internationally known as “Mangkhut” — which inundated a huge part of Northern Luzon. /atm
