More than 300 policemen who tested positive for using illegal drugs have been dismissed from the force, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Oscar Albayalde said Monday.

A total of 349 police officers have tested positive for using “shabu” based on the data of the PNP Crime Laboratory from January 2016 to September 2018.

“Lahat ‘yan dismissed,” Albayalde said in a press briefing. “Majority na-dismiss na (Majority have been dismissed already). I think over 300,” he said.

He added other lawmen who would test positive for drugs would also be removed from the service.

“Lahat ng pulis na nagpositive sa ilegal na droga, lahat ‘yan dismissed. I can assure you that.” Albayalde said.

(All of them will be dismissed. All police officers who will test positive for illegal drugs will be dismissed.)

Albayalde declared that “there will be no second chances” for a policeman who will test positive for illegal drugs.

He said other officers were still going through “confirmatory” processes prior to dismissal.

Albayalde said the PNP was intensifying its internal cleansing program to get rid of members involved in illegal activities. /cbb
