Murder suspect killed in police shootout in Zamboanga

ZAMBOANGA CITY— A man wanted for murder resisted arrest here on Saturday morning, which led to his death.

Police Senior Inspector Shellamae Tubo-Chang, information officer of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), identified the slain suspect as Rosendo Lorenzo, aka Endo, of legal age and a resident of Sitio Baluno in Barangay Bunguiao.

Tubo-Chang said law enforcers had tried to serve the suspect a warrant of arrest but he allegedly resisted and enaged the cops in a shootout.

“Responding personnel also recovered Lorenzo one caliber 45 pistol,” Tubo-Chang said.

Superintendent Fergen Torred, chief of the Regional Intelligence Division, said Lorenzo was wanted for the death of one of the police officers in Zamboanga City and  was facing a murder charge. The arrest warrant under criminal case 38865 was issued by Judge Ivy Damayo Elvina of Branch 17, 9th Judicial Region.

During the police operation on Saturday morning, the troops of Police Chief Inspector Jerry Alvarez of the 904th Mobile Company, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 9 arrested another suspect, Mark Anthony Mambalan Deles, 30, a resident of Barter, Barangay Camino Nuevo this city. Deles is a companion of Lorenzo.

From Deles, cops recovered 40mm grenade launcher, four sachets of suspected metamphetamine with street value of P68,000, an undetermined amount of cash and drug paraphernalia.

Deles was turned over to Sangali Police Station (ZCPS3) while Lorenzo’s body was processed by the Zamboanga City Crime Laboratory. /ee
