1 hurt as van collides with truck in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — One person was hurt after an aluminum van collided with a trailer truck in a pre-dawn accident in Manila Thursday, police said.

Senior Police Officer 2 Marco Saunar of the Manila Traffic’s Investigation Unit said Ricky Eso, 30, the driver of the van tried to avoid heavy traffic at around 4:30 a.m. by changing lanes along Bonifacio Drive in Intramuros.

“Nagcounter-flow siya at dun na niya nasalubong yung truck. Head-on-collision yung nangyari,” explained Saunar.

The accident happened in front of the office of the Philippine Red Cross, he said.

Eso was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, said Saunar.

The driver of the trailer truck, John Paul Bello, was not injured in the accident, he added.

Meanwhile, Dang Rosulada of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Metrobase said that they were sending a tow truck to clear the area.
