Motorists were not only caught in the rush hour traffic late Thursday afternoon as they were also caught by surprise over the daredevil act of two street children who climbed atop a moving taxi along Edsa.
Footage from the CCTV of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) showed that one of the two was already above the taxi seemingly sniffing from something clasped by one of his hands as the vehicle passed through the Pasay Road Tunnel. Momentarily, the other kid came running and climbed the taxi, too.
MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said the agency would help the children and facilitate their transfer to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) once their agency finds them.
“Ang MMDA ay tumutulong sa pag-rescue ng mga batang hamog pati na rin ng ibang street dwellers. Atin po silang itine-turn over sa DSWD after natin sila makuha sa lansangan,” he said in a statement.
(The MMDA is helping with the rescue of these street children and other street dwellers. We turn them over to the DSWD after we rescue them from the streets.)
Garcia then reminded motorists always to make sure they lock the doors of their vehicles to avoid untoward events while traveling.
“Payo natin sa mga motorista na mag-ingat at panatilihin lagi naka-lock ang mga pinto ng sasakyan para maiwasan ang anumang hindi magandang pangyayari sa kalsada,” he noted.
(We advise our motorists to take care and always have the doors of their vehicles locked to avoid any untoward incidents on the road.)
