Malacañang is leaving it to Congress to decide on the proposal of Sen. Vicente “Tito” Sotto III to amend the closing lyrics of “Lupang Hinirang,” saying the country has more serious problems to face.

“Iniiwan na po namin ‘yan sa Kongreso. Mas maraming mas matitinding problema na dapat harapin. Bahala na po ang Kongreso diyan,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a Palace briefing.

Sotto on Monday said he was thinking of tweaking the  “defeatist” lines in the lyrics of the country’s national anthem.

Instead of the current,  “Aming ligaya na ‘pag may mang-aapi, Ang mamatay nang dahil sa’yo,” Sotto wants “Aming ligaya na ‘pag may mang-aapi, Ang ipaglaban kalayaan mo.”  /muf
