Ilocos Norte province has been placed under a state of calamity due to the damage caused by Typhoon “Ompong,”, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in Ilocos Norte said on Monday.
“The Sangguniang Panlalawigan through a Resolution No. 2018-09-265 has declared the province of Ilocos Norte under STATE OF CALAMITY due to damages brought by Typhoon #OmpongPH,” the PIA said in a Twitter post.
Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos earlier suspended classes in all levels on Monday.
“Ompong” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility last Wednesday and made landfall in the Cagayan-Isabela area last Saturday.
Ilocos Norte was placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 4 on Saturday.
