SAN FABIAN, PANGASINAN — A bridge spanning the Cayanga River here was closed to traffic on Sunday after its southern approach was swept by a strong river current.
The bridge’s approach began to erode at about 10 p.m. on Saturday as rampaging waters from the Bued River filled the Cayanga River before exiting to the Lingayen Gulf, said Roberto Decena, council member of Longos Centro village here.
The bridge, which links Decena’s village to Barangay Cayanga, also connects this town to Dagupan City and Mangaldan town.
With the closure, motorists and commuters would have to travel to San Jacinto town to reach this town.
In an advisory, the Department of Public Work and Highways said it has started building a path for pedestrians. /ee
