Thousands of customers of the Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) experienced low water pressure on Sunday after Typhoon “Ompong” caused “increased turbidity in the raw water” at the concessionaire’s source at Ipo Dam,

“Heavy rainfall over the Ipo watershed brought on by Typhoon Ompong has increased turbidity in the raw water of Ipo Dam. This has constrained us to reduce water production in our treatment plants,” Maynilad said in an advisory on Sunday.

Turbidity is caused by mud, fine debris and other sediments suspended in water, causing it to look cloudy or murky. Sediments clog filters at water filtration plants which need to clean the filters more often.

Affected areas will have low pressure to no water supply from 3 a.m. from 3 p.m. on Sunday, according to Maynilad.

Affected areas include barangays in Manila, Quezon City, Pasay, Malabon, Las Pinas, Paranaque, Makati, Caloocan, Navotas, Bacoor and Imus City in Cavite. /cbb
