“Sa susunod na dalawa o tatlong araw ay patuloy na itong makakaranas ng magandang panahon. Pagdating ng Lunes improved weather na tayo,” Pagasa weather specialist Gener Quitlong said in a press briefing on Sunday

As of 4 a.m., Sunday, Ompong was spotted at 480 km west-northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, while moving west-northwest towards Southern China.

Quitlong said western sections of Luzon and the Visayas would still experience scattered moderate to heavy rain on Sunday due to the typhoon’s cloud band and the southwest monsoon.

Pagasa advised fisherfolk, especially those with small seacraft, to not venture out over the northern and western seaboards of Luzon as gale warnings were still up.

Ompong maintained its strength with maximum sustained winds of 145 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 180 kph, according to Pagasa’s final severe weather bulletin on the typhoon.

Quitlong said Ompong could strengthen before it makes landfall near Hong Kong, China. /cbb
