Marina cancels sea voyages in Iloilo due to ‘Ompong’

The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) on Saturday canceled sea voyages at various port areas in Iloilo as Typhoon “Ompong ”(international name: Mangkhut) hit the country.

Fastcraft, ferries and cargoes at ports of Estancia and Carles in Iloilo were canceled.

Sea voyages from IloIlo to Bacolod, IloIlo to Jordan and Buenavista in Guimaras and 11 trips in Catician Port of Aklan were also canceled.

As of this posting, the typhoon has sustained winds of 170 kilometers per hour with a gustiness reaching up to 260 kph, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by the typhoon, will hit Western Visayas with gusty winds and occasional moderate to heavy rains.

The typhoon is expected to leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday evening. /atm
