SAN PEDRO CITY – Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) left over 9,000 people in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon (Calabarzon) affected by strong winds and heavy rains.
A report from the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office hours after Ompong made its landfall, said the number of evacuees reached 2,814 families (9,025 persons).
Although it made a direct hit in northern Luzon, the typhoon had affected 41 towns and cities in Calabarzon.
These were Noveleta and Cavite City in Cavite; Alaminos, Bay, Calauan, Kalayaan, Liliw, Los Baños, Mabitac, Nagcarlan, Paete, Pagsanjan, Pakil, Pangil, Pila, Siniloan, Sta. Cruz, Sta. Maria, and the cities of Calamba and Biñan in Laguna; Batangas City, Bauan, Cuenca, Nasugbu, San Luis, Taal, and the island town of Tingloy in Batangas; Binangonan, Jala-jala, Rodriguez, Tanay, Taytay, and San Mateo in Rizal; and Polilio, General Nakar, Infanta, San Francisco, Pagbilao, Atimonan, Sariaya, and Mulanay in Quezon.
Alex Masiglat, the regional disaster team spokesperson, said no one was reported hurt so far, although data were still being collated from the provinces.
In Ternate, Cavite, a house was reportedly damaged by a fallen tree in Barangay Bucana.
Uprooted trees blocked the roads in Barangay Pansipit-Poblacion in San Nicolas and in Barangay Pacifico in Sta. Teresita, both in Batangas province.
