PSA conference: Scholars take closer look at PH issues

A conference set on Sept. 26-28 will offer scholarly scrutiny of issues that had shaped and are shaping Philippine history, including disinformation, democracy, elections, colonialism and knowledge production.

The conference, “The Reshaping of Philippine Studies: Contending Viewpoints, Voices and Knowledges,” would be held at the National Museum.

It would be convened by Philippine Studies Association (PSA) as a follow-up activity to its 10th International Conference on Philippine Studies at Silliman University in Dumaguete City in July 2016.

The field of Philippine studies continued to be reframed and even remade through the work of scholars and academics, resulting in new theoretical and methodological directions.

26 sessions

Close to 100 scholars and academics will present papers in 26 sessions in the conference to be keynoted by PSA president emeritus Bernardita R. Churchill.

Established in 1984, PSA is the leading umbrella organization of scholars in the Philippines.

It is committed “to promote study, criticism and research in Philippine languages, literature, culture and society, and to further the common interests of teachers and scholars in these fields.”
