INQUIRER.net exposѐ on organ donations adjudged best in investigative reporting
MANILA, Philippines — An INQUIRER.net investigative report on organ donations and government regulation was adjudged among the best at the 7th Annual Population Development Media Awards.
Former INQUIRER.net senior reporter Lira D. Fernandez, 37, was cited for best investigative reporting for her two-part series entitled “To regulate or not to regulate organ donation by government” which was posted on INQUIRER.net on October 5, 2010.
The report exposed the practice by some doctors in the Philippines performing organ transplants on foreigners whose countries prohibit them.
Fernandez received the award Tuesday night at the Richmond Hotel in Eastwood, Quezon City.
Fernandez was with INQUIRER.net for close to a decade before moving on to another local news website.
Before this, Fernandez was a feature writer for the now-defunct Manila Chronicle.
