Classes suspended in Oriental Mindoro as ‘Ompong’ brings rain
CITY OF CALAPAN – Classes on Friday, in all levels, in public and private schools, were suspended in this city, and in the Oriental Mindoro towns of Naujan, Puerto Galera, Socorro and San Teodoro as Typhoon “Ompong” (international name Mangkhut) threatens Luzon.
In Baco, Oriental Mindoro, only classes from preparatory school until Grade 12 were suspended.
On Friday morning, Bulalacao, the southernmost town of Oriental Mindoro, also declared a suspension of classes in all levels.The class suspensions were declared by the various local government units after northern Oriental Mindoro was placed under public storm signal number 1 due to “Ompong,” said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
As of this posting, at least 70 cargo vehicles have been stranded at Barangay (village) Sta. Isabel since boat trips plying Calapan and Batangas ports were suspended Thursday. /muf
