The amount of rain that may fall in Baguio City this weekend due to Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: Mangkhut) may surpass the deluge from Tropical Storm “Ondoy” in Metro Manila in 2009, the state weather bureau said.
“Sa Baguio posible daw mag-observe ng 550.9 mm rainfall. Pwedeng pantayan or higitan niya ang rainfall na naibigay ni Ondoy sa Metro Manila,” said weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz.
(In Baguio, we can possibly observe 550.9 mm rainfall. It could match or surpass the rainfall level that Ondoy had in Metro Manila.)
Ondoy inundated most of Metro Manila in 2009, with a rainfall amount of 455 mm in a span of 24 hours.
“Observed rainfall ‘yung sa Ondoy. Itong sa Ompong ay prediction… Si Ondoy sa Metro Manila, ito sa Northern Luzon,” Dela Cruz said.
(It was observed rainfall with Ondoy. This is a prediction with Ompong… Ondoy was in Metro Manila, this one is in Northern Luzon.)
Ompong is expected to widely affect Northern and Central Luzon this weekend.
Very strong winds, storm surges over coastal areas, and heavy to intense rains are likely to occur over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera on Friday, and the rest of Northern and Central Luzon on Saturday, Dela Cruz said. /je
