LEGAZPI CITY – Albay Gov. Al Francis Bichara has issued an advisory suspending classes in public and private schools from preschool to high school on Thursday (until lifted) as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration might raise typhoon warning signal number 1 on Wednesday night or Thursday morning in the province.
Bichara, chair of the Albay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, has advised all local disaster councils in the three cities and 15 towns of the province to be on heightened alert and to closely monitor the status of Typhoon “Ompong” (international name: “Mangkhut”).
He also directed the Philippine Coast Guard to implement the “no sailing” policy in the ports of Legazpi, Tabaco, Pio Duran, and Libon once the weather bureau raised storm warning signal number one.
Bichara’s advisory also warned fishermen not to sail and go fishing due to the rough seas.
Coastal villages in the province’s eastern seaboard were likewise warned about the occurrence of big waves striking the shorelines during the bad weather.
