The House of Representatives adopted on Monday a resolution urging the Commission on Election (Comelec) to reset to Oct. 11 to 17 the filing of the certificate of candidacy (COC) for the May 2019 elections.
House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and Majority Leader Rolando Andaya, Jr. filed House Concurrent Resolution No. 20 on the same day.
The Comelec earlier set the COC filing for the May 13, 2019 local and national polls on Oct. 1 to 5.
The Senate also adopted a similar resolution, Concurrent Resolution No. 13, on Monday.
In filing the concurrent resolution, Arroyo and Andaya said: “it is imperative” to reschedule the filing of COCs so lawmakers could “fully attend to their legislative duties and meet the deadline” for the COC filing.
They noted that the lower chamber is currently deliberating the 2019 national budget, and other priority measures and that they would adjourn their session only from Oct. 13 to Nov. 11.
A concurrent resolution adopted by both houses of Congress does not require the signature of the President and does not have the force of law.
