Soldier hurt in Oriental Mindoro clash

CITY OF CALAPAN – A soldier was wounded in an encounter with suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Mansalay town in Oriental Mindoro province on Monday morning.

Supt. Imelda Tolentino, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) police information officer, said two platoons from Philippine Army’s 2nd Infantry Division based in Mindoro were conducting combat operations when they encountered an undetermined number of rebels in their encampment at the vicinity of Sitio (sub-village) Panahulugan in Barangay (village) Panaytayan at about 6:50 a.m.

She said Corporal Romeric Urbiztondo was wounded in the encounter.

As of Monday morning, operations were still being conducted by the Army. /kga
