Albayalde, CIDG chief assure no warrantless arrest of Trillanes

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Oscar Albayalde has assured that Senator Antonio Trillanes IV will not be arrested without a warrant, following the orders from President Rodrigo Duterte.

“We will wait for the warrant of arrest […] they (police) will stand there until this situation ay maayos ito at maresolve,” Albayalde said in a press briefing on Monday.

Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Chief Director Roel Obusan also echoed Albayalde’s statements, saying that they would abide with the President’s directive.

“The President already directed us to wait for the warrant,” Obusan said.

“Nagde-detail kami don not to arrest, maliwanag si Presidente ‘don, no warrantless arrest, hindi kami mag-aaresto,” he added.

On Friday, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque assured that Trillanes would not be arrested unless the court issues an order.

Albayalde also shut down fears that the police was gearing up to arrest the senator, claiming that the pre-positioning was just to monitor the “heated” scenario.

“Support lang kami sa Senate, this is a military matter, tandaan natin na si Senator Antonio Trillanes is a former Navy officer,” he explained.

On Tuesday, police officers were seen in the vicinity of the Senate on Tuesday, after Malacañang released Proclamation 572 which voided Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s amnesty.

The senator has been holed up in the Senate since Tuesday after Duterte had revoked his amnesty. /je
