I’ve done a lot for the AFP, says Trillanes

Senator Antonio Trillanes IV denied he didn’t do anything to extend aid to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in reaction to President Rodrigo Duterte earlier questioning what he has done for the military.

“Naku, kung ililista ko lang, baka maghapon tayo rito. Anyway, nakapost ‘yan sa aking website. Lahat ng iba’t-ibang kampo, nagpapagawa tayo ng iba’t ibang infrastructure,” he said in a press briefing on Saturday.

(Oh, if I can only list that, we’ll probably have to stay here the whole day. Anyway, these are all posted in my website. In all camps, we have been building different infrastructures.)

Trillanes, a former soldier, said he also authored laws that benefited members of the AFP.

“Alam ng sundalo ‘yan (The soldiers know that),” he said, citing that he authored the AFP Modernization law and the Salary Standardization law for the military.

According to Trillanes, Duterte’s efforts to provide new equipment to the AFP would not be possible if he did not author its corresponding law.

Trillanes resigned as a soldier in 2007 after he filed a certificate of candidacy to run for a senatorial seat. /asu
