Shortly after his arrival on Saturday from his visits to Israel and Jordan, President Rodrigo Duterte wished that priests contract, and die from venereal diseases.
The President made the statement after a priest jokingly wished that the Chief Executive get sick in the wake of controversies hounding the country.
“By the likes of you, itong paring to wish ill, mamatay sana si Duterte, edi sabihin ko nalang rin mamatay sana kayong lahat ng venereal disease,” he reacted during a press conference at the Davao airport.
Duterte added that it does not matter to him when his death will come.
“Wag kang mag-alala Father, whether I die today, I die tomorrow, it doesn’t matter to me. Tapos na ako,” Duterte said referring to Father Noel Gatchalian who presided a Mass for Trillanes’ supporters outside his office in the Senate building.
Gatchalian on Thursday said that since the Church asked the public to pray, he prayed for the Chief Executive to be ill.

“Noon pong marami nang kaguluhan ang nangyayari, na winawalanghiya pati ang ating relihiyon, binabastos pati ang ating Diyos, sinasabi ng ating Simbahan na magdasal. Sabi ko o sige magdasal, kaya pinagdasal ko na magkasakit si Digong,” Gatchalian said during his homily on Thursday.
The President meanwhile again slammed the Catholic Church for its controversies and described it as the “most hypocritical institution in the Philippines.”
The President added that some priests even hide children they have fathered in the very orphanages they are supervising.
“At saka may orphanage kayo existing now where yung mga anak niyo na sikreto, andiyan nilalagay. Kunwari pinapalabas ninyo… The most hypocritical institution in the Philippines,” Duterte said. /muf
