Pagasa: LPA may develop into tropical cyclone ‘Neneng’ over 24 hours

The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Luzon may develop into a tropical cyclone over the next 24 hours, the state weather bureau said Thursday.

The potential cyclone, which will be locally called “Neneng,” will not have a direct effect on the country but will enhance the southwest monsoon or “habagat, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

Pagasa spotted the LPA 820 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes.

According to Pagasa, with the LPA enhancing the habagat, Cavite, Batangas, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, and Western and Eastern Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience localized thunderstorms.  /muf
