Resolve plea, Cebu City Hall asks court

CEBU City Hall is asking the court to resolve its plea to set aside a ruling that mandated them to pay its dues to the heirs of Rev. Fr. Vicente Rallos.

City attorney Joseph Bernaldez said the court should rule on their motions. Otherwise, the city will be “greatly prejudiced” by any delay after Regional Trial Court Judge James Himalaloan inhibited himself from handling the case.

“If the judge feels that he can no longer handle the present case for whatever reasons, the resolution of the motions of the City of Cebu should at least not be held hostage,” Bernaldez said in their pleading.

Two barangays dubbed cleanest

THE Department of Health yesterday acknowledged two barangays for Best Sanitation Practices in Central Visayas.

Barangays Lazi in Siquijor and Valaldolid in Carcar City each received a plaque of appreciation and P150,000 check from the agency.

DOH-7 Sanitation Division Chief Evangeline Canoneo said the P150,000 prize will be used for water sanitation and other projects of the  barangay.

Regional DOH-7 Director Susana Madarieta said environmental sanitation should be everybody’s concern as it plays a vital role in the community.

The National Search for Barangay with Best Sanitation Practices (NSBBSP) started in 2008.

The search aims to raise awareness on the importance of sanitation and to encourage government and its partners to promote and implement sanitation policies.

The search period was from April to November this year.

Barangay Valaldolid had a total score of 80.50 percent while barangay Lazi garnered a total score of 74 percent based on the criteria set by DOH. Correspondent Rhea Ruth V. Rosell

Forensic lab for NBI-7

A P20-million forensic laboratory will soon rise in Cebu City.

The facility will be in the new building of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) in sitio Sudlon, barangay Lahug, Cebu City, which is expected to be finished next year.

In an interview, NBI-7 Assistant Director Lauro Reyes said NBI Director Magtanggol Gatdula promised to hand over the funds for the construction and maintenance of the forensic laboratory.

“This (NBI-7 forensic laboratory) will help solve cases faster. We no longer have to depend on our office in Manila,” Reyes said.

Last October, the NBI-7 signed an agreement with the Capitol for construction of their building.
